Pieces of a Dream
This was one of my first attempts at abstract art. It's part of my Deconstruction series. I started by making a quilt from pieces of silk fabrics that I covered with yarn. Then I cut it up. Yup, I cut it to pieces Do you have any idea how hard that was to do the first time? (And the second time, and the third time...)
After cutting it to bits, I spread out the pieces on a piece of netting and then stitched over the whole thing with tons of metallic threads in matching colors. If you look at the piece carefully, you can see where the pieces actually fit together just like a jigsaw puzzle.
For the frame, I covered a narrow wood frame with the same silk fabrics that I used in the piece. (Actually, I had my mother do this while she was helping me at an art show out in Arizona.) And then painstakingly had stitched the piece into the frame.
Including the frame, this pieces measures about 30" x 40".
