​Poppy Abstractions

Abstracted variations on a theme of poppies.

​I was on vacation in Avila Beach, California. There were so many beautiful places to take photos. I was hiking around the area where our group was staying. At the top of a retaining wall by the side of the road was a bunch of rather tenacious California Poppies. The previous day had been rather cloudy and breezy. This particular day there was not a cloud in the sky. I was able to stand at the base of the wall and shoot up to get the light filtering through the flowers and the beautiful clear blue sky. 

​​For my fiber art version, I made the sky much more dramatic. I love the way the fabric adds texture and the thread adds movement. It's one of the reasons I love thread painting so much.

Then I discovered digital manipulation and my technical side took over. These images all start with the same base image, which is my original sewn thread painting, which I manipulate in different ways using a combination of Corel PhotoPaint, JixiPix Spektral Art, and for the patterns Repper.app. I am really enjoying this process. And I love the results. It would be difficult for me to choose a favorite, but I do have a few. Here are some samples:

I am also creating videos of the patterns by using the Repper app and WonderShare Filmora for the video editing.

I'm really happy that I am able to use both my technical side and my creative side at the same time!
