Sometimes things just don’t work out the way we planned. I had all these grandiose ideas about how I was going to complete the Catalina Island piece by the end of July. I got it to a certain point and then I stalled. I just wasn’t feeling it. I don’t know why. And, I have found that when I get to a place like this, it is best to just step back from the art. So, I rolled it up and stuffed it in a corner of my studio. But, that doesn’t mean I have given up. I’ll get back to it eventually. For now, I am moving on to something else. I’m calling this new one “The View from My Favorite Restaurant.” (It’s Peppino’s at Lake Mission Viejo in case you’re wondering.) I took my best friend out for dinner here when she was visiting in June. We just sat out on the patio and watched all these little sailboats going by. I think they were having a sailing class. Then it dawned on me, I should be taking pictures. Duh! I got several good ones. The one above is the one I am working from. I have been posting my progress on my Facebook page. You can go there if you want to see all the work-in-progress photos. I started this piece on July 17. Here’s where I am so far. I finished the water and the sky and have started working on the trees. I had to stop here because I ran out of green thread for the trees. Time to head off to the fabric store. Again.
